Abstract

The management of malignant soft tissue sarcomas requires a thorough understanding of tumor behaviour. The optimal treatment of soft tissue sarcomas remains a challenge for the multidisciplinary approach in modern oncology. Like many other solid tumors, soft tissue sarcomas display a dual problem: Optimal local control and prevention of distant metastases. Because of low incidence of this malignant disease, it is of importance that the clinical management of any tumor with suspicion of soft tissue sarcomas based on the clinical presentation and the imaging studies, will be guided by the advise of a specialized center. A multidisciplinary team of surgeons, radiologists, pathologist, radiation and medical oncologists will evaluate each case and appropriate the model of treatment that will be selected for each individual patient. Only immediate collaboration of the clinician first involved at the time of diagnostic procedures with such a team can guarantee that the patient will finally receive an adequate treatment strategy.
