Abstract

This study was performed on 16 female rabbits at the Experimental Surgery Unit of the Aegean University Medical School Hospital. Following a blood injection in to the breast paranchym (Group 1) and blunt trauma (Group 2), histopathological changes and serum levels of the tumor markers (CA 15-3, CEA and ferritin) were analyzed by means of RIA in rabbits. The effects of trauma and the rabbits' blood on breast paranchym were investigated in the study. Various histopathological findings were obtained in the breast of rabbits with blunt trauma and blood injection. A significant ductal epithelial hyperplasia was observed especially in rabbits with blood injection (Group 1). We think that these changes were not directly related to the trauma but because of various effects of blood and blood products. No statistical difference in serum levels of tumor markers (CA 75-3, CEA, Ferritin) were obtained in both group of rabbits between the levels in the period of preoperatively, third month and postoperatively sixth month in this study.
