My distinguished colleagues,
I was charged with the presidency of the 9th Surgical Research Congress that was held by the Executive Board of Turkish Surgical Society on November 10-12, 2017. I would like to thank the President of the Association and the Executive Board who entrusted this duty to me. We felt the support of our University, Faculty of Medicine, and the Department of General Surgery for the congress organized in Kocaeli to reach the objective worthy to our community.
As the organization committee, we worked with great enthusiasm to organize courses, panels, conferences and scientific work presentations for the purpose of organizing a research-weighted, fruitful and successful congress in accordance with the era of Industry 4.0. We received the necessary support at every stage from planning to realization especially from our Chairman Prof. Dr. Çağatay Çifter and the Executive Board of Turkish Surgical Society, and from our esteemed colleagues. We express our gratitude to all of you.
Surgeons have always taken their place as the locomotives of medicine. At Surgical Research Congresses, which have become conventional, the target has always been to go one step further than before. While our congresses include the latest developments in surgical researches, to keep up-to-date and to provide a horizon for the future of our colleagues are among important aims. In this respect, the 9th Surgical Research Congress is a new opportunity in terms of encouraging our young colleagues and students, who are interested in surgery, for researches, innovations, new technologies and methods and in terms of providing the possibility for the researchers to present their studies and establishing their self-esteem. During the congress, one of our major expectations is that the research centers in Turkey introduce themselves and contribute to our vision, and a brainstorming is created in order to ensure coordination among the centers.
Research and Development (R&D) has importance in the world, particularly in our country. For this reason, in order for the academicians to be trained as good researchers, providing training on philosophy and ethics of science, adaptation and equipment, planning and realization of research, presenting them to the public, and delivering them as scientific publications are important at every step.
With this vision, in order to find scientific and applicable solutions to our country's health problems, we would like to welcome our distinguished colleagues from all surgical disciplines, young research assistants, and our students who are expected to put new bricks in the surgery and health of our country in Kocaeli on November 10-12, 2017, with the desire of a new step towards increasing the productivity and quality in surgical education and surgical research.
