Abstract

The surgical and pathological results were compared with the findings of preoperative CT assessment in 25 patients with gastric cancer. A 92%accuracy of CT staging was achieved while CT's sensitivity to invasion of serosa and neighboring organs was found to be low. 50% of hepatic metastases and 66% of enlarged lymph nodes were demonstrated by CT. The results of this study suggested that CT did not accurately reflect the true extent of disease and should not preclude surgical intervention. However, it would give valuable clues to the surgeon in the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer when used as an adjunctive method.
