Abstract

In this prospective study, patients with high risk and seriously delayed intraabdominal infection in the post traumatic and surgical emergency intensive care unit; T3, T4, TSH values and its correlation with APACHE II score have been studied to predict prognosis mortality. For that reason T3, T4, and TSH values have been obtained in 33 patients at the 12th-24th hours and on the 5th day. The same patients have been estimated with APACHE II score also. At the 12th and 24th hours it was determined that (here was an evident reduction of 73 and T4 (p<0,05) and a mortality rate of 85, 7% when T4 values were lower that 2, 0µg/dl, and increasing I scores with respect to decreasing T3-T4 values. We conclude that serum T3-T4 values and T4 to TSH ratio are reliable indicators of mortality and postoperative complications.
