Abstract

Omental torsion is a rare cause of acute abdomen occurring when the organ is twisted along its long axis. It may be either primary, when no obvious cause is found or secondary when associated with an intraabdominal pathology. A 45-year old female was admitted to the emergency department complaining of abdominal pain for 1 day. The patient underwent laparotomy at which omental necrosis was observed due to the primary omental torsion. The patient underwent omentectomy and appendectomy. In this case report we aimed to discuss the principles of diagnosis and treatment of primary omental torsion which is a rare cause of acute abdomen in the light of current literature.
