Abstract

Recently, laparoscopic surgery is being expanded and tried to be applicable to gastrointestinal operations other than cholecystectomy. The technique of laparoscopic mobilization of the abdominal esophagus and esophagogastric junction has enabled successful esophageal surgery with this approach.

Laparoscopic technique of Heller's cardiomyotomy is described for the treatment of achalasia of the esophagus.

For this purpose the abdominal route is preferred and the technique is based on a multi puncture method.

The procedure was performed safely with complete symptomatic and functional relief in short term.

No complications were encountered and discharge from hospital occurred by the third day after the operation.
