Abstract

In this double blind controlled study, in vivo influence of exogen collagen on wound healing was investigated on sixteen albino guinea rats. Animals were randomised to test and control groups and subdivided into two subgroups with regard to postoperative days on which they were sacrificed in order to remove a skin strip for measurement of tensile strength and to examine histologic sections in terms of the healing criteria such as the collagen content, neovascularisation and cellular compactness of inflamatory granulation tissue. The results of tensiometric measurements was found to be better in test animals compared with controls on seventh postoperative day (p<0.01) and results on fourteenth postoperative day were statistically significant (p<0.005).

It was also noticed that histologically wound healing had been affected positively by Celltrex in comparison with controls. Those effects of exogen collagen on healing process were discussed herein, taking other properties of exogen collagen.
